Vander Viana holds a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the State University of Rio de Janeiro and an M.A. in Language Studies from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, where he is currently doing his Ph.D. research. As regards pedagogical experience, he has been teaching English as a Foreign Language to Brazilians for over a decade.  He has held the post of Second Secretary of the Association of English Teachers in the State of Rio de Janeiro (www.aplierj.com.br) since January 2007 and was a member of the Financial Committee in 2005 and 2006.

Since 2003 he has been a member of the REDES Research Group (www.redes.lmu.de / www.letras.ufrj.br/redes), working in collaboration with researchers from Brazil, Canada, Germany and Ukraine. He has published articles on Corpus Linguistics, English Language and Distance Learning in national and international journals.

He has co-edited and reviewed a number of published volumes.  Acting and Connecting: Cultural Approaches to Language and Literature (2007), edited in collaboration with Sonia Zyngier and Anna Chesnokova is among his latest publications (http://www.lit-verlag.de/isbn/3-8258-0750-4).  He has also been invited to join the Editorial Advisory Boards of international handbooks and journals.
