Lawrence Jun Zhang, PhD, is a tenured professor at the National Institute of Education (NIE), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, where he has been a faculty member of the English Language & Literature Academic Group since 1999. He has worked as the Coordinator of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Program (English Language, Secondary Specialization). He teaches mainly in the BA, PGDE and MA programs, in addition to supervising MA, PhD and Post-Doctoral research scholars. Dr Zhang’s research spans psycholinguistics, metacognition, language learning strategies, reading instructional design, and teacher-education. He has presented over 50 papers at international conferences in Australia, Canada, China, England, Germany, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and USA and has published over 100 articles, reviews, and chapters in edited books. His recent work appears in international referred journals such as Asian Englishes (Japan), Language Awareness (UK), Perceptual & Motor Skills (USA), Language & Education (UK), International Journal of Educational Reform (USA),Asia Pacific Journal of Education (UK), RELC Journal (UK), British Journal of Educational Psychology(UK), ITL International Journal of Applied Linguistics (Belgium), Instructional Science (USA), and Pedagogies (USA). He has co-authored two books: Knowledge, Beliefs and Syllabus Implementation (NIE, Singapore, 2005) andLanguage Education Concepts: A Guide for English Language Teachers (Pearson Education Longman, 2004). His recent book is in the Curriculum Studies Series: Teaching the English Language: Reading and Oral Communication Skills (Abu Dhabi Education Council, 2007).
As an invited referee for top-tier SSCI-indexed international journals such as Language Learning (USA), and Perceptual & Motor Skills (USA), he also reviews manuscripts for other international journals including Critical Inquiry in Language Studies (USA), Language Teaching (UK), Journal of Applied Linguistics (UK), and System (USA), among others. In addition to serving The Asian EFL Journal on the Editorial Board, he is also an editorial advisory board member of TESOL Quarterly (USA), Metacognition & Learning (USA), The Linguistics Journal (Korea), and TESL-EJ (USA), among others. He has also been invited to deliver plenary/featured addresses at international conferences in China, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand.
