Creating an English Language Teaching Hub

The teaching roles of the EFL teacher in an ESL country

The First TESOL Philippines International EFL ESL Conference will be held at the Diplomat Hotel, Cebu, Philippines, from August 8th 2009.

The aim of this conference is to bring together EFL practitioners across Asia to exchange views on a wide range of issues in EFL ESL practice and research. Through this exchange, it is hoped that participants will gain better insights into the world of EFL ESL and the challenges it faces. TESOL Philippines and Asian EFL Journal are proud to co-host this inaugural special event .

Keynote speakers will include:-
Professor
Rod Ellis (New Zealand)
Assoc Professor Phyllis Chew (Singapore)
Professor Carlo Magno (Philippines)
Professor Z.N. Patil (India)
Professor Paul Robertson (Australia)


Proposals (up to 250 words) for 30 minute presentations should be related to research and practice into EFL ESL teaching and the teaching of ESL EFL in Asian contexts or with Asian students. Papers are invited:-

Suggested topics are but not limited to:-

*Teaching EFL students in an ESL zone
*Cultural impact of teaching EFL students
*Teaching English in the Philippines
*A Global hub for English language teaching
*Teaching teachers to teach EFL students
*Teaching English grammar to Koreans & Japanese
*Setting standards for English language schools in Philippines

*Workshops

Abstracts in English should be sent to asianefl@gmail.com by June 30th, 2009 and should include the following information:
1. Author’s full name and title.
2. Author’s affiliation and address.
3. E-mail contact address.
4. Title of the paper
5. Abstract (up to 250 words)

Notification of acceptance will be given by July 4th, 2009

A Conference Proceedings edition will be published in 2009 and for this purpose full papers should be submitted by November 30, 2009 to

Fees:
Conference participation:
Local Speakers fees Peso 2,500
International Speakers fees. U.S. $200
Attendance 2,200 Pesos (U.S. $42.00)

Accommodation in 3-5 Star Hotels can be arranged. ($30 up to $100)

Cebu Hub Project
Global Centre of English Language Teaching Excellence
Under the direction of Professor Paul Robertson, a Working Committee of 7 government departments and 27 national business's will meet on Monday 10th August to discuss the establishment of Cebu - Centre of English Language Excellence Hub. Universities from the Philippines and oversea will attend this business think tank session. Interested participants are invited to attend and present.

The Governor of Cebu, The Honorable Gwen Garcia, Dr. Paul Robertson (Asian EFL Journal) and Prof. Fabio Suh of Hus Innovation, Korea, discuss the Hub project and Conference in Cebu
