TESOL CERTIFICATE module
introduction 2

for new teachers

This may be your first look at teaching children who are learning English as a Foreign or Second Language.

In this Module we introduce three articles:-

The first article considers what it means to be an English Language Teacher.

Read this article first. Don't worry if you do not understand everything - the pieces will fall into place.

Article: An Expose of 'What Is An English Teacher.

Next read these two articles:-
Dictionaries Usage in EFL and Learner Development

Assessing Dictionaries in Asian EFL Usage

Your assignment:-

Imagine you are entering the classroom for the first time. There are 20 students, boys and girls, aged 12-13, who have been studying English for about 3 years. Assume we are in an Asian setting.

Your school Director has told you you can do as your please in this first lesson, as you are a new teacher and the students are very excited to meet you. Remember, they will probably have many questions, but may be very shy.

Your written assignment is to discuss how you would approach this lesson - what you would do -what materials you might like to use - the issues and problems you think you may be facing - and what you wish to achieve in this 1st lesson.

Submit the answer to
asianefltesolc@yahoo.com and include your student number.
