Professor Rod Ellis Award
In recognition of the decades of untiring service to linguistics and the SLA profession, the Asian EFL Journal is proud to announce this award.
1st Award:-
Return ticket to the Asian EFL Journal International Conference to:-
i) present the paper as a key speaker
ii) receive a decorative plaque and certificate

2nd -5th Award:-
vi) Certificates of Excellence in SLA research
Criteria.
1. The award is ongoing. The Inaugural award committee for
2008-2009
will accept articles up until February 1st 2009
for award in April 2009
2. Article criteria
2.1. Length > Minimum 3000 words
2.2. Research into an area of SLA.
3. Articles must research a new area of SLA or provide a new approach to a previously studied area. Shortlisted papers will be not only
well-researched and informative, but will also report a new
contribution to knowledge through either the research approach
or the findings.
4. The precise area of research is open to the researcher but could include: socio-cultural impacts of language teaching, research into SLA across international contexts, applications of English as an International
Language & its impact on cultures.
5. Papers that emphasize socio-cultural/ecological/experiential
approaches to research will be particularly welcomed. It is expected that studies will be theoretically sound, but will also emphasize direct relevance to actual practice and that this emphasis will be integrated
into
the research approach.
6. Successful studies are expected to consider a variety of approaches to data collection and analysis in combination.
7. Purely quantitative studies that do not provide any qualitative angle and that are divorced from real educational experience are unlikely to be shortlisted.

The final 5 papers selected by our Senior Editorial Committee will be give to Professor Rod Ellis to make the final determination.
8. Once papers are submitted there will be only the following correspondence:-
a) receipt of article
b) notification to the five authors on February 10, 2009
c) Notification to all 5 winning authors of the final selection
d) On-line notification of the 5 articles accepted
9. By submitting a paper to the Professor Rod Ellis award, you are agreeing:-
a) the paper has not been sent to any other journal for consideration nor will be without written notification agreeing to same
b) that the AEJ may publish the paper in a Special edition
c) that the authorship is exclusively in the named authors
d) that APA standards have been followed.
