for award in April 2009

2Article criteria
2.1.             Length > Minimum 3000 words
2.2.             Research into an area of SLA.

3. Articles must research a new area of SLA or provide a new approach to a previously studied area. Shortlisted papers will be not only well-researched and informative, but will also report a  new
contribution to knowledge through either the research approach
or the findings.

4. The precise area of research is open to the researcher but could include: socio-cultural impacts of language teaching, research into SLA across international contexts, applications of English as an International Language & its impact on cultures.

5. Papers that emphasize socio-cultural/ecological/experiential
approaches to research will be particularly welcomed. It is expected that studies will be theoretically sound, but will also emphasize direct relevance to actual practice and that this emphasis will be integrated into the research approach.

6. Successful studies are expected to consider a variety of approaches to data collection and analysis in combination.

7. Purely quantitative studies that do not provide any qualitative angle and that are divorced from real educational experience are unlikely to be shortlisted.
