So You Want to Become a Teacher? Now What?

Abstract:
Teacher trainees attend to education faculties with various reasons and motives. However, is this really the job they want to practice in the future? This study is an attempt to investigate and compare the Turkish and European future teachers’ attitudes towards teaching as a profession. Using a 30-item Likert type scale, 30 Turkish and 30 European teacher trainees were asked about their attitudes towards their future profession. Among European students there were trainees from Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Hungary and Romania. A comparison of the results reveals that Turkish and European students differ in their perception of teaching as a profession in some ways. **
