Title
LOOKING FOR A COMMODIOUS COLLUSION WITH COLLOCATIONS

Abstract:
The writer/educator endeavoured, through the structured instilling and use of collocations delivered to two levels of English classes in the grammar (integrated skills) lessons to teach collocations, not only learned sequences, but to develop a curiosity in the students to these structures.

Two levels of classes were instructed upper intermediate and pre-intermediate, using the ‘Success’ text books* which were the prescribed texts for the Preparatory School at these levels.  Additional materials were used including topics taken from BBC News Reports and Grammar Dictation.

The reaction to the presentation of the collocations by the students and the usefulness of learned collocations and curiosity towards the acquisition (language extension) of other collocations by students was unexpected and surprising.

Validation and perception of usefulness of learned collocations was assessed through the writing marks of students marked by a series of instructors none of whom were the researcher.
