THE EFFECTS OF LEISURE-TIME ACTIVITIES ON READING COMPREHENSION AND ATTITUDES TOWARDS READING 

Abstract

This study examines the effect of leisure-time activities on attitudes towards reading in English and reading comprehension achievement of preparatory class students of Dokuz Eylul University, School of Foreign Languages.  Research data were collected through Leisure-time Activities Questionnaire, English Reading Comprehension Test and Attitudes towards Reading in English Scale. Means, standard deviation, t test, analysis of variance and Scheffé tests were utilized in data analysis. The results indicate that there is a statistically significant difference in terms of attitudes towards reading in English and reading comprehension achievement of students according to the leisure activities they participated in.
