Title
Difficulties and Problems Involved in Lingua Franca Communication

Abstract
The last decade has witnessed sig nificant changes with reference to the status of the English language as a result of globalisation, mobility and the widespread use of internet and computers. This has, in effect, led to the increasing number of non-native speakers of English across the globe. With the increasing nonnative varieties of English, we have started to wave goodbye to native speaker norms of language and highlight more the importance of  effective communication skills. Although this has been perceived as a relief by some- not having to struggle for an unattainable goal- lingua franca communication came forward with its own problems and difficulties. Thus, in this presentation, the presenter will discuss what could possibly  make non-native-non-native exchanges problematic in terms of communication failures, misunderstandings and resolving conflicts by focusing on a spoken data sample that took place on a long distance flight between two passengers and the crew.
