Title
A Good Bilingual Third Language Learner: Features in Strategy Use
Abstract
As the SLA literature reveals, one key issue has been how some L2 learners are more successful than other learners. In this respect, some studies assert that possessing language learning background or experience plays a key role. The present study sought to investigate the degree to which an Iranian bilingual, as a good learner, used language learning strategies in the EFL learning context. The theoretical observation was based on Oxford's (1990) model of language learning strategies. As the results indicated, the case learner's average strategy use was assigned as high, due to using meta cognitive, cognitive and social strategies the most. This is a further confirmation of some previous studies (Rivers, 2001; Swain et al., 1990; Thomas,1988, 1992) that experienced language learners (whether formally instructed or exposed to a second language) stretch their strategy use in learning a new language and this contributes to their relative success.
