Title

WHO OR WHAT A TEACHER SHOULD BE IN CLASS? A RESEARCH IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF LEADERSHIP ISSUES WITHIN THE CONCEPT OF GROUP DYNAMICS

Abstract
The basic concern of this paper is to relate group dynamics principles with leadership issues in order to explore new approaches to teachers’ roles within their classes. In this presentation teachers’ power  and the use of this power will be questioned in the light of the idea that ‘a teacher is a facilitator’. What does a facilitator do? How do we facilitate a class? Can a lanfuage class be considered a group to be facilitated? Being a facilitator’s number one priority, group formation, the internal structure and developmental stages of a group, and maintaining cohesiveness in a group will be dealt with. In order for the teacher’s being an effective leader in class, different modes of facilitation, facilitator attributes and leadership styles, put forward since 1930s, will be examined.
