Title
Analyzing Test Results in a Quality Standard System Work Setting

Abstract
          Due to the advent of globalization, EFL/ESL programs are now under pressure to get certified and/or accredited by a competent international body. One particular aspect of the EFL/ESL program that is often scrutinized by auditors/accreditors is how assessment tools are developed. In their scrutiny, evidence of quality assurance and improvement is often sought.
          This presentation aims to discuss the “know how” and “do how” of analyzing test items in a quality standard system work environment. The analysis which is based on the results of a major test will include an examination on the plausibility of distracters/options analysis, as well as the calculations of facility and discrimination indices. Sample test items will then be presented to the participants to illustrate how the process works. Finally, the participants will be acquainted on how the test items are revised for eventual test-item banking.  
          The session is primarily intended for ESL/EFL teachers, assessors and course directors working for institutions that require ISO-compliance or other relevant quality systems for their EFL/ESL programs. Other interested parties are also welcome.
 
Bio: Dr. Dela Rosa is currently a member of the English Language Center (ELC) Academic Council at Jubail Industrial College (JIC), Jubail in Saudi Arabia. He is also a Course Coordinator for English 011 aside from being an English Language instructor.  

He has presented various papers on curriculum design/planning, course module development, testing and quality systems at local and international conferences. These conferences were held in Saudi Arabia (2009), the United Arab Emirates (2008), The Philippines (2004), The Russian Federation (2003), Singapore (2002), and Bulgaria (2001). He was also chosen as member of the paper selection committee on maritime safety held at the University of Brehmen, Germany (2001).
