Title
Storytelling in Teaching 4 Skills: Learning Opportunities

Presenter
Faisal Al-Shamali

Overview of Workshop:

The participants have been reading about using techniques of storytelling to further their success in teaching. They might have even read articles on this topic. Maybe they’ve attended other professional conferences on a storytelling strategy.  Storytelling is a tool for business field i.e. teaching but it's tough to know what they, specifically, need to learn from this. In my coaching workshop, let me focus on "you" teachers, parents, friends, your superiors, etc.

Workshop Objectives:

The aim of this workshop is to find new alternatives, more challenging ways in teaching ‘traditional’ skills and to create new authentic activities that could involve storytelling as facilitator of teaching process. Storytelling is a skill that can be effectively directed to improve other skills, such as writing, grammar, listening and speaking. In this workshop, I will try to create a bridge between different skills through storytelling.

Workshop Procedure:
Storytelling is the oldest form of education. Cultures around the world have always told tales as a way of passing down their beliefs, traditions, & history to future generations. Stories capture imaginations, engaging the emotions and opening minds of listeners. Consequently, any point that is made in a story or any teaching that is done afterward is likely to be more effective. Storytelling serves many functions; it will always be the cornerstone of teaching .It's the task of a teacher to find out how to use it effectively, energetically ,skillfully and develop his/her students' competence and performance. A teacher can train students how to be a good story-teller using good breath control, careful enunciation, appropriate gestures, postures, effective pauses and other speech techniques that make him/ her a proper speaker. Storytelling will improve your ability to communicate your messages and make them stick in the hearts and minds of your students, your listeners, your friends, your superiors.
