Abstract:-
The role of teacher has been revolutionized in the modern era. The stick and rod culture now has been replaced by the use of modern technology in teaching. This paper highlights the multiple role of EFL teacher and teacher training in Pakistan. It has been commonly observed that teachers’ focus is always on teaching the pupils just to go through the exams. The students’ creativity is marred by continuous spoon feeding by the teachers. The teachers do not pay any heed to the socio-cultural implication of English language teaching.
Teachers with poor communicative skills are on their way to teach the students a foreign language. They fail to add to the confidence of the students. The students are taught more about the language rather than the language itself. Traditional way of teaching is very popular and common between the teachers.
They are not aware of innovative teaching techniques and still cling to their traditional way of teaching. Teachers are not familiar with classroom methodology just because of lack of proper teacher training modules and the use of modern technology in teaching. In Pakistan, teaching of English is content based not skill based i.e. the teachers do not come out of the textbooks. No real practice in English is seen in training programmes and in the classroom context. This study will help to overcome the difficulties which are faced in developing communicative skills and to use suitable methodology.
Key Words:- socio-cultural implication of English language teaching, innovative teaching techniques,
